My Voice Chat Experience with ChatGPT
My Voice Chat Experience
Hola mis amigos! Hope you are all doing fine ❤️
My Experience
Today I want to share my voice chat experience with ChatGPT. In our Instructional Technologies and Material Design course our teacher gave us two options.
★ In option A, we were expected to chat with a historical figure, author, or story character.
★ In option B, we were asked to voice-chat with a chatbot.
Now, I want to tell you about the process. First, I chose Option B, looked at the given topics, and decided on the topic ''Should students be allowed to use ChatGPT in school?'' I started looking for an AI tool that includes a voice-chat feature. Then, I learned that ChatGPT has this function and I used ChatGPT to complete this assignment. It challenged me in some parts because it has a time limitation. So, I hesitated whether the time had run out. I felt stressed and this made the process unnatural. On the helpful side, it gave me informative answers and understood me very well. It helped me practice speaking in English and I was pushed to keep thinking in English without switching to my native language. Thinking about my future teaching practice, I think there are ways to use AI tools in the classroom. Students could use voice chat to practice their speaking in a foreign language and participate in discussions. Also, it could be useful for shy students to build up confidence outside of school hours. But I would also remind them that AI is not completely reliable. I would say that it can make some errors and it lacks emotional variation which is really important. I would teach my students how to use AI responsibly without becoming dependent on it. As a future English teacher, I believe AI tools like ChatGPT could be powerful assistants in the language classroom if they are used with proper guidance. So, when I become a teacher, I will give such assignments to my students too. It has many advantages in terms of language learning. One of the major benefits is accessibility. Students can practice speaking and get feedback anytime. They also can practice listening and writing by using AI. They can enhance their vocabulary knowledge, check their grammar, or evaluate their fluency. But there are also some drawbacks. Language learning is not only about grammar or vocabulary. It is also about building real-life communication skills. However, AI struggles with human elements like emotion. The other risk is that students may become too dependent on it. To prevent this, teachers should educate students about the right usage of AI. Students need to know how to ask questions and how to evaluate answers by themselves. They should not lose their ability to think creatively.
My Reflective Report
After talking about this topic with ChatGPT for 4 minutes, I saved the transcript and wrote a reflective report based on my voice-chat experience. Then I uplouded my report to a feedback tool. After getting the feedback, I fixed my report and added both first and revised version of my reflective report. Then, at the end, I talked about the changes I made and their reasons as a separate pharagraph.
Here is my reflective report and the transcript. You can see it by clicking this link.
How would you integrate AI tools into your classroom?
Do you think AI can be useful in language classes?
