AI-Enhanced Corpus Based Learning

      This week, our assignment was to create an AI-enhanced corpus-based teaching material and we made a lesson plan. We designed activities for EFL high school students in Turkey. We focused on the confusing grammar points ( will and be going to ). We wanted students to use their logic and find the rules themselves. Inductive learning is important here because students should be at the center of the learning process. They should act like sherlock holmes. :)

     Me and my friends (Zinnur Belhan, Nehir Güler) created all our materials by using Canva. I love using online platforms because it makes collaboration easy. For example, we could see our progress and help each other easily. Also, we made our lesson plan using the ASSURE model.


     Honestly, the project was not easy but it taught me a lot. Now, I feel confident teaching grammar topics (especially the ones students usually find boring) by getting them actively involved. I think that when students discover the rules on their own, they remember them much better.

    Using corpus and AI also supports deeper learning because students can search real example sentences. With a corpus, they can see authentic language use and even check frequency. AI also helps students because it is easier to use and learner fridendly. These tools make learning more meaningful and more memorable. 

However, some problems may occur if this material is used in a real classroom. Some students may have difficulty using corpus or AI tools, especially if they are not familiar with technology. Limited internet access can also be a problem in some schools. In addition, students with lower proficiency levels may need more guidance to understand the examples and discover the rules. To solve these problems, the teacher should give clear instructions, provide examples, and support students during the activity.

I believe that combining technology with such activities will become more important in future classrooms, and I am excited to keep improving my skills.
